* VISPO IN THE WORLD. I like how language degrades & layers are revealed. I like unreadable graffiti, stencil slogans, wrapped telephone poles. All similar forms of 'street publishing.' ->IMPORTANT: This magazine is for documenting poetic work in the public sphere or work given away/left in public. I do not wish to see page-based work for the most part - exceptions are possible - but not that easy to imagine * VISUAL POETRY for me has to connect to text, readability is not necessary, but language is required (no matter how degraded). * ARTFULNESS I appreciate careful technique, a painterly eye, work that doesn't sacrifice some kind of discipline, but, I also thrive on accidents. * THE HAND IN THE WORK. So much work is computer-based now that I find myself liking the handmade or hand-assisted works, they're consistently more real for me. * B/W-ish i tend in the direction of black and white and appreciate those who can use just enough color or who let the colors of the materials carry the weight. Monochromes. Sepia. A starkness that has impact. * SEND YOUR WORK If you think you have work that would work for me, send it. If you have work you think will realign my perceptions, send that. I am willing to change, this is simply where I am starting from. I hope that the interplay of my starting point and what comes in, will generate some surprises for me and a recognizable style for this magazine.
SENDING TO THIS MAG
I.AM.REPUGNO at GMAIL dot COMI am interest primarily in photo documentation of your work in public spaces and so, send me JPGs exclusively for that purpose - 72 dpi - roughly "blog-width." If you have a movie at utube of something which fits my parameters I would be excited to see it and link to that if it works for me, I would also happily link to soundfiles associated with images (but I cannot host them). For those things; soundfiles and movie clips, send a link, otherwise I would prefer not to get "submissions" that are just links to archives of your work. If you are interested in my magazine please take the time to select some work that suits it. At this time I do not wish to include textual work about the field of visual poetry broadly considered, but I would be interested in texts that addressed my specific interests as framed by this magazine, these could range from descriptions of the difficulties of putting work out, the sorts of troubles that happen, or reactions that you have seen or been able to gauge - or - such texts could be more reflective or theoretical, but here I would need to see solid focus on "visual poetry / word art / text objects - as they intervene in the world". * Send 10 pieces to start. & tell me what you need me to know about names titles links4U etc. Response Time will be no later that the end of the current submission window's end date - So, October 31st for Issue No.2. if I reply sooner than that it will likely be because I either LOVE the work or know immediately that it is not appropriate for this magazine.
* my own work is generated via a collage method. i am dependent upon photocopiers, scissors, markers, glue it is only later (if ever) that anything of mine is digitized. my work is almost entirely created from manipulated textual sources. i appreciate this material aspect of the work i do and i respond to it in the work of others. . . . . . .
